Hey folks, I hope all is going well for you. Work was a little crazy this week and I'm stressing over school. Heather, I know what you mean about the ED 330 class, it's looming over my head and giving my nightmares. I was hoping to have it done by October, but thats not happening. And I am a little frustrated with one of my classes. It's a weird mix of on campus students and off campus distant ones and us distant kids always seem to be shortchanged. It's a huge class, and I don't know how the teacher is going to deal with all of us. There are more than 20 kids in the class and I just don't see how its going to work. And the reading load is huge. Argghh, I could go on forever, but I'm sure you have other things to do than read my complaining.
On another note, I found out what our district policy is on subsistence leave. A student is excused as long as a parent calls in or writes a note letting the school know they are hunting/fishing ect. However, a student cannot pass a class if they have more than 16 absences. I don't know if they discriminate between excused or unexcused. Staff can take personal leave to go hunting, but there is no leave specifically for subsistence activities.

Kotzebue seems to be about in the middle of the road in terms of dealing with subsistence issues--not overly restrictive in terms of granting excused absences but still not as well-integrated as Russian Mission. Someday I'm going to compile data from all of the Alaska districts and their policies toward subsistence. It would make a good research project.
Erika, I try not to talk as much in that class your are talking about, but no one else steps in. I will wait longer next class, lol. I know it does get frustrating. This is the very first time I have ever taken a class with other non-distant students. That is my goal, though, I told my girl friend I felt bad last class for talking so much. I will work on that! JUST BUTT IN!!! HEHE I know you and won't be offended! I have such a head ache myself right now, as I am trying to quit drinking coffee, and I still have to 1/4s of moose to process at home. Anywho, you take care and I will talk with you in class tomorrow night! By, the way I haven't received my books yet for that class!
Hello Erica,
I know what you mean about the Ed 330 class. I just feel so swapped with working full time and some of the other classes that it is very hard to make any headway with it. Good luck in Fairbanks.
